Freight transport is crucial for today's economical and environmentally sustainable rail transport system. Furthermore, at a national level, a reliable and efficient rail freight system properly articulated with other modes of transport is decisive for the competitiveness of the economy. In this context, the PFP intends to contribute to a more attractive rail freight offer and consequent compliance with new environmental requirements.
Key development actions:
1. Identify possible improvements in loading/unloading layouts;
2. Development of autonomous robotic technologies that decrease operation, loading and unloading times at terminals;
3. Identification of constraints, review and proposal of solutions, namely towed loads on certain routes, length of railway units in stations and operation in terminals and communications optimization.
